It’s spot on.

An Apple Watch gifted by a sister of mine has been great in helping me lose weight and solidify daily exercising… but goodness, after many years now do I feel like throwing it out the window at times with its constant wrist tap notification buzzing.

But I believe it might be also a tale of the times, because the phone, when nearby, projects a similar feeling. Family members chat groups and contacts that had “jump the blocked notifications fence” privileges are now also out of control… what used to be “in case of emergency” is now a daily dose of audio notes, pictures, obnoxious overly emotional videos, etc.

Many utilities have become a sort of micro instagrams self contained everywhere.

And let’s not get started with a simple note taking endeavor: the iPad or equivalent tablet might be running out of battery, or the pencil, or it might be nagging for queuing an update, or it might be showing a summary of all the previous messages notifications received… extra friction chores (just as with the watch) that aren’t there with pen and paper.

There are many of benefits still for going digital but it has definitely become overly complicated and over engineered for the simpler things.

And then there’s bloated software, like Microsoft Teams. What’s supposed to be a chat app like Messenger or ICQ of the yesteryears is now the most stress inducing chat app, it updates basically daily on open with a hit or miss of previously working features suddenly breaking, it’s a calendar app, a presentations app, a streaming app, a gif generation machine for coworkers with too much free time on their hands.
