Over the last few months, we’ve been working on our new website and now it’s ready to share with you. Here’s a short breakdown of what’s different, what’s new, and what’s better.
Clean and Focused Design
We wanted the new site to breathe—to be calm, clear, and focused on what it offers you. We went for a lot of white space throughout and intuitive calls to action, without any obtrusive features. Nothing is hidden, because there’s nothing to hide. The new site has three main functions:
Allowing you to subscribe to our letters (starting this month)
To share our community journal articles
To offer you downloads of inspirational wallpapers
Before we launch the Inside Minimalism series, we’re offering you a 50% subscription discount.
New Typeface
As our site is focused on the written word, it’s really important to use a font that is readable and well-designed. We finally chose TT Commons. We might experiment more with font sizes on different displays, but we hope you like this one as much as we do.
Improved Performance
A significant difference and improvement to our new site is its speed. Because our site has been built with simplicity at its core, it allowed us to make an incredibly lean site that ultimately makes your experience better. Whether you’re browsing on mobile, tablet, or desktop, you’ll find using our site a simple pleasure.
Hello Kirby
Probably the most significant change for our new site is actually something that you, the reader, won’t even notice—the backend. We were previously running Minimalism Life on WordPress, but as that is becoming increasingly bloated, we decided to rebuild the site—entirely—from the ground up, using a lightweight and super-flexible content management system called Kirby. This move has been like a breath of fresh air for us.
The site has been coded by web developer Manu Moreale.
New Wallpapers
With a new site comes new wallpapers. We’ve introduced a mix of inspirational quotes that we often share on our Instagram profile, and some simple, minimal designs—for both desktop and mobile devices.
All wallpapers have been designed by Carl MH Barenbrug.
